Protests against ‘Padmavati’ swell in India
New Dehli (Web Desk): Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie ‘Padmavati’ film has been criticised by Rajput and other groups in India for ‘distorting history’.
While over one lakh members of the community converged at a massive gathering at Gandhinagar, thousands took part in the protest march in Surat to raise their demand of staying the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed movie.
On Sunday, a massive rally was taken out by thousands belonging to 55 different religious and social organizations against the film in the city on Sunday.
Members of the Rajput group have objected to Padmavati since shooting began and threatened to delay its release, claiming that the movie distorted history.
In January, Bhansali was assaulted on the set of Padmavati in Jaipur in Rajasthan, after which the shoot was shifted to Maharashtra. The movie’s set in Kolhapur was set on fire in March.
The movie is scheduled to release on December 1.
