Govt blocks 98.3m unverified mobiles SIMs


ISLAMABAD – State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed on Thursday informed the Senate that there was no non-verified SIMs and all existing mobile SIMs have been re-verified through Biometric Verification System (BVS).

He said that as many as 98.3 million SIMs which were not re-verified, had been blocked. He said that there were around 2,270 active registered satellite phones in Pakistan while registered foreign SIMs on international roaming were 223,000. To another question, the minister told the house that teachers student ration in the schools of Islamabad Capital Territory under Federal Directorate of Education was 1:23.

He said that a total of 9092 teachers were working in the schools against the students’ strength of 207,519. To a question, Aftab informed the House that 82 villages were illegally occupied by trespasser in the capital and the land has not yet been got vacated. He said that there is no proposal with Capital Development Authority (CDA) for development of model villages for tourists and recreational activities.
