Heavy downpour claims 5 lives in Peshawar, as more rain expected
PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD – Heavy downpour coupled with gusty winds claimed lives of five people and injured 25 others in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to police and hospital sources.
The deaths occurred due to roof collapses mostly in rural areas. In Urmarh, two brothers Muhammad Asad, Muhammad Awais and their sister Tasleem – children of Abdul Razzaq – died due to roof collapse. In Jhagra village, Manzoor Ahmad – son of Muhammad Ikram – was killed in roof collapse incident while Sidra Bibi was killed as portion of the roof collapsed on her in Phandu village.
At least 25 people were injured in the rain-related incidents. Hospital sources said that most of the patients were discharged after treatment. More rain/thunderstorm is expected at isolated places of Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir and tribal areas whereas hot humid weather continues to prevail elsewhere in Pakistan during the next 24 hours.
In Pakhtunkhwa, thunder shower is expected at Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan divisions, while Sargodha, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi divisions of Punjab besides federal capital, Zhob, FATA, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir during this time span.
Met office said seasonal low lies over northeast Balochistan and its adjoining areas. A westerly wave is affecting upper parts of Pakistan and likely to persist during the next two to three days. Rain/thundershower occurred at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, upper Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir while at isolated places in Sargodha, Gujranwala divisions and Gilgit Baltistan.
