Imad Wasim also gets central contract
LAHORE – Confused and idiotic Pakistan cricket selectors on Tuesday included young Imad Wasim in the central contract list, confessing a typo mistake that almost deprived the spinning all-rounder of a handsome monthly salary and win bonus. It took the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) ‘sage’ selectors, who are getting hefty salaries and perks, months to prepare the list to award central contracts but still it was not flawless.
The 26-year-old, who famously hit a six in the final over to help Pakistan win the second Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in Colombo last month, was surprisingly omitted from the list of 27 players awarded contracts on Saturday. Pakistan’s chief selector Haroon Rasheed said that Imad’s name was erroneously missed out. “Owing to a typographic oversight, Imad’s name was omitted from the list of centrally contracted players. He was in the selection committee’s list in category ‘D’. But while submitting the names for approval, his name was erroneously omitted from the list. The error stands corrected now.”
The PCB has increased monthly salaries, win bonuses and match fees across all categories after a deadlock between the players and the central contract committee delayed the announcement for two months. The contracts will be from July to December.
The PCB said Imad’s name was approved. “Imad has been added to the list of the players who have been offered central contract for the year 2015-16, following PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan’s approval on chief selector Haroon’s request,” the PCB said in a statement. Imad’s exclusion and then inclusion is not the only blunder the PCB has committed while awarding central contracts.
Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, who is struggling to cope with life after remodelled action has been included in category ‘B’ on the insistence of 80-year-old Shaharyar. On the other hand, Zulfiqar Babar has been placed in category D despite being regular part of national team while Rahat Ali has been promoted to category B. Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Amin have been included in category D despite being out of the team for more than six months due to injury and poor form, respectively, while Fawad Alam has been placed in C category. But the PCB is full of ‘sage’ people who have not only ruined Pakistan cricket but also made it a laughing stock around the globe.
The final list of 28 central contract players:
