Mango growers face loss due to exports suspension

MULTAN – Mango Growers Association (South Punjab) has expressed concern over suspension of mangoes shipment at airports and seaports due to strike of cargo-handlers and stated that it would harm their economically.

Mango Growers Association President, Maj. (R) Tariq said that cargo-handler companies and cargo agents were observing strike against imposition of services tax. The export of various goods had been suspended due the strike, he said. He also said that nearly six to seven shipments of mangoes had been stopped and lamented that the shelve life of the mangoes was short than other dry articles.

Mango season would end in next four to five weeks, said the president Mango Growers Association and added that the strike would damage not only the farmers but also deprive country from handsome foreign exchange. He informed that the fruit was being exported to Europe, Gulf countries, America, Canada and some other countries. He requested the government as well as cargo-handling companies to resolve the matter as early as possible in order to avoid economic damages further.
