Nick Faldo Pakistan Golf Championship tees off today
LAHORE – The Nick Faldo Pakistan Series Golf Championship returns to Pakistan again and from Saturday (today) a total of sixty juniors will tee off at the Defence Raya Golf and Country Club Golf Course here, vying for selection to represent Pakistan in the Faldo Series Asia. This championship for juniors in the age bracket of 12 to 21 years will highlight the talent and ability of young ones.
During two days of the competition visible will be a very competitive fight for national selection. The competition rounds will be played on September 5 and 6 at an excellent golf course which is currently graded amongst the best in Asia because of its superb fairways and undulating terrain that tests golfing skills to the maximum.
“The inaugural Faldo Series Pakistan Golf Championship took place in Karachi in 2012 and ever since the event has been held every year,” stated Brig (r) Nayyar Ahmad, honorary secretary of the Pakistan Golf Federation on Friday. He further added that this international series launched by the golf icon Nick Faldo had yielded many champions of significance and the occasion was likely to highlight champions of Pakistan also.
The participants will play in age categories: under-21, under-18 years and under-16. The top performers will gain selection for representing Pakistan in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club in China in March 2016.
Some of the juniors competing in this championship have already made a name for themselves in the national golf circuit and they are Junaid Ahmed, Shahbaz Ahmed, Nadeem Aslam, Mubariz Ahmed, Ahmed Sultan Kayani and Ali Anish Rehman.
