Overpriced medicine stocks seized
ISLAMABAD – Federal inspectors of Drug Regulatory Authority (DRA) of Islamabad on Friday conducted a surprise inspection of medical stores and pharmacy in the vicinity of Chak Shahzad and seized medicine of overpriced stocks.
The operation was conducted on the direction of Minister of State for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar. During the inspection a locally manufactured drug tablet was being sold on higher price of Rs 230 than the approved price of Rs 150 fixed by DRA, said spokesman.
The stock available of the said drug was seized by the federal inspectors of drugs of Islamabad as per Drug Act 1976. Along with, samples of different medicines of local and multinational companies were taken for test and analysis. Matter is under investigation and legal proceeding has been initiated as per law receipt of test reports of Central Drug Laboratory Karachi.
The minister said that the government is determined to eradicate the menace of spurious drugs, sub-standard, adulterated and unregistered drugs at zero tolerance policy to safeguard public health and violators of law will be dealt with iron hands.
