'Pakistan exports cotton products worth 16bn dollars annually'


MULTAN – Additional Secretary Task Force Agriculture Ahmed Ali Zafar on Wednesday said that Pakistan was exporting cotton products worth Rs 16 billion dollars annually.

He was chairing a meeting attended by agriculture department officers, representatives of pesticide companies and other stakeholders. He said that climate changes, pests attacks and use of substandard pesticides were damaging crops resistance against diseases. Ali Zafar said that companies involved in manufacturing of sub-standard pesticides would be taken to task at all costs.

He said that the government was working on hybrid seeds for ensure maximum and quality production. The additional secretary said that farmers did not adhere to instructions during spray which caused loss to them as well as reduce agriculture productivity. He said that the Punjab government earmarked Rs 4 billion to facilitate farmers to avail soil and water analysis at agriculture department labs.

He also assured that obstacles in way of renewal of licenses would be removed after consultation with stakeholders very soon. Agriculture EDO Chaudhary Mushtaq, DO Syed Aleem Raza and other officers were also present.
