Pakistan to participate in 6-Red World Snooker Championship
KARACHI – A three-member Pakistan snooker team, comprising former IBSF world champion Muhammad Asif, former world championship runner-up Muhammad Sajjad and recent finalist member of world team championship Asjad Iqbal, will leave for Bangkok, Thailand on Defence Day of Pakistan (September 6) to feature in the 6-Red World Championship to be held there from September 7 to 12.
World’s top amateur players will be rubbing their shoulders with top professionals of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. Asif and Asjad Iqbal have been nominated by the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) for being the semi-finalists of the IBSF 6-Red and Team World Championship 2015 and Sajjad has been nominated for being the IBSF World Championship 2014 runner-up. Sajjad has been drawn in Group B with John Higgins (Scotland), Matthew Selt (England), Anthony McGill (Scotland), Yuan Sijun (China) and Boonyarit Keattikul (Thailand). Asif is placed in Group C with Judd Trump (England), Michael White (Wales), Kristjan Helgason (Iceland), Ahmed Galal (Egypt) and Noppadon Noppachorn (Thailand). Asjad Iqbal (Pakistan) is in Group F with Joe Perry (England), Robert Milkins (England), Matthew Stevens (Wales), Rory Thor (Malaysia) and Ratchapol Pu (Thailand).
