Pakistani artist Saeed Ghani’s birthday tribute to Mahesh Bhatt

Indian filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who turned 67 on Sunday, got a special gift from Pakistan – a portrait by a Lahore-based artist.

Mahesh’s daughter and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt took to social networking site Instagram to write how Muhammad Saeed Ghani spent a whole night working on his canvas.

She was ‘overwhelmed’ by his dedication and posted a picture of Saeed Ghani and her father standing near the portrait.

“Mohammed Saeed Ghani, a painter from Lahore stayed up all night to paint this portrait of my father! Overwhelming,” she captioned the picture.

On Instagram she wrote, “Mohammed Saeed Ghani who sells paintings at the Avari in Lahore stayed up all night to paint this portrait of my father! Generosity & Kindness? May thy name be PAKISTAN. Especially when it comes to the love you shower on our family!”

A play based on the filmmaker’s 1989 film ‘Daddy’ was staged in Pakistan earlier this year. The filmmaker, who often calls himself a facilitator of the cultural dialogue between India and Pakistan, had earlier told IANS that Bollywood is responsible for reviving the interest in cinema in its neighbouring country.

Born in 1948, Mahesh made his directorial debut with ‘Manzilein Aur Bhi Hain’ in 1974 and rose to prominence with his 1982 critically-acclaimed film ‘Arth’, followed by ‘Saaransh’ in 1984, which was India’s official entry for the 1985 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.He last produced Emraan Hashmi-Vidya Balan starrer ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’, under Vishesh Films.
