PM, COAS discuss CPEC security
ISLAMABAD – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif Friday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed various matters pertaining to national security.
According to reports, the civil-military leaders discussed internal and external security matters, especially to ensure security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Reports said the prime minister and army chief have agreed that no stone would be left unturned to foil “evil” designs against the economic route.
According to sources, the PM was briefed that military’s especial security division has started working to protect the CPEC route. In the meeting, the prime minister and army chief General Raheel Sharif also exchanged views over operation Zarb-e-Azb and a crackdown on criminals and militant groups in Karachi and other cities.
The two leaders also exchanged views on speeding up implementation of National Action Plan, the sources added. Earlier, Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan called on the prime minister and discussed with him the overall security situation of the country. Nisar also apprised the prime minister about his meeting with British leadership during his recent trip to the United Kingdom.
