‘Pakistan destined to become regional economic hub’
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan High Commissioner to New Delhi Abdul Basit on Thursday said that Pakistan was blessed with enormous resources and great location that was destined to become a regional economic hub and a bridge between South Asia and the landlocked Central Asia.
During a meeting with Karnataka State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Bangalore, the high commissioner apprised him of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of peace and development and Pakistan’s interest in normalising relations with India on the basis of mutual interest and mutual respect.
Basit briefed the Karnataka State chief minister about developments taking place in Pakistan including the revival of the economy. The two sides discussed the issues of mutual interest. The high commissioner also invited the chief minister to visit Pakistan which he agreed, on mutually convenient dates. The two sides also discussed creating linkages between Karnataka and the provinces in Pakistan especially in the fields of information technology, health and education.
Later in the day, the high commissioner addressed students at the prestigious Mount Carmel College in which he stressed that there was a huge gap between the image and the reality of Pakistan. He apprised the students how Pakistan was making huge strides in all walks of life and Pakistani women were working hand in hand in the development of Pakistan. He also referred to Pakistan’s robust civil society and the vibrant media which were part and parcel of the democratic Pakistan.
