Bargain hunting boosts Tokyo shares at close

TOKYO : Tokyo stocks closed higher on Tuesday as afternoon bargain hunting lifted the market, despite concerns about the strength of the global economy.

The Nikkei 225 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.58 percent, or 108.88 points, to 18,982.23, after finishing flat in morning trade.

The Topix index of all first-section shares was up 0.93 percent, or 14.17 points, at 1,543.39.
