China, Hong Kong shares edge up by break 

HONG KONG: Chinese shares were up slightly by the break on Tuesday as investors weighed the country’s economic prospects for the coming year, dealers said.

The Shanghai Composite Index added 0.17 percent, or 6.09 points, to 3,539.87, while the benchmark Hang Seng Index put on 0.32 percent, or 69.59 points, to 21,989.21.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, gained 0.16 percent, or 3.77 points, to 2,312.15.
