Govt wants credible strategic partners for 26 percent core business of PIA: Dar
ISLAMABAD : Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar said on Monday the government wanted credible strategic for only 26 per cent core business of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The step would aim at improving efficiency and enhancing the business of the national airline making it a profit earning entity, he said while speaking in a private news channel programme.
Ishaq Dar said the government was making efforts to restructure the PIA. Its aircraft fleet had been increased from 18 to 36, which had also enhanced PIA’s business from 52 per cent to 82 per cent.
Replying to a question regarding the Karachi operation, the minister said it was started with the consensus of all political parties and it should continue to purge the city of criminals and bring back complete peace.
Regarding non-filers of the tax returns, he said the government wanted to bring the non-filers into tax net and soon a package would be announced for them.Dar urged the non-filers to come under the tax net and contribute in the economic prosperity of their country.
The minister said Zarb-e-Azab had broken the back of terrorists. More than 300 hard core terrorists had been killed. The government had allocated Rs 100 billion for Zarb-e-Azb in the current year budget and rehabilitation of the people of the area affected by the operation.
The minister said the foreign exchange reserves for the first time had increased to more than $ 21 billion which was a good sign for the country’s economy.
