High level meeting under PM discusses Heart of Asia conference; Relations withIndia and Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting at PM House Tuesday morning. The meeting was attended by COAS General Raheel Sharif, National Security Advisor Lt. Gen (R) Nasser Khan Janjua, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, SAPM Tariq Fatemi and other senior officials of the government.
The meeting was called to discuss and evaluate arrangements for the conference, which is being attended by top officials from ten countries, including Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.
Lt. Gen (R) Nasser Khan Janjua briefed the meeting on the recent talks with his Indian counterpart held in Bangkok, in which the foreign secretaries of both the countries were also present.
The agenda of “Heart of Asia” conference also came under discussion during the meeting. The meeting also discussed the upcoming visit of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to Pakistan.
It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be having separate meetings with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Indian External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and according to sources, relations with these countries also came under review.
Later, PM Nawaz and COAS Gen Raheel Sharif met one-on-one to discuss security-related matters.
