IT promoting entrepreneurial culture for youth
KARACHI: The trend of entrepreneurship is increasing among the young professionals in Pakistan’s IT industry who are more confident on their skills and business-centric approach with number of start-up projects under Networked Elements: Supporters and Transformers (NEST).
The second cycle of incubation at NEST, Pakistan Software Houses Association’s (P@SHA) tech incubator, has come to an end and 13 diverse start-ups have graduated. It concluded with start-up of technology businesses included apps and web platforms for reviving street cricket, ordering fresh, organic producing at home, discovering shops and restaurants and educating special children.
P@SHA President Jehan Ara said the talented teams have a lot of potential to start innovative businesses and for creating jobs for other young people like themselves.
The more businesses we incubate at NEST, the more we realize that there is no shortage of talent in Pakistan, particularly in the technology sector, she said, adding that the teams have proven yet again that people from all sorts of backgrounds can come together to grow, learn and take their dream forward, and we are here to help them.
She said the NEST provides budding entrepreneurs with space, testing devices, mentoring, and a specialized curriculum, access to investors and to a vast network of business people, adding that it also provides them with an opportunity to form life-long friendships with individuals like themselves.
The NEST has also set up a partnership with global partners and Samsung, with a supporting grant from the US State Department, she added.
The graduating start-up businesses in this cycle included Hireonic, a portal to streamline technical recruitment, Mandi Express, an online marketplace for ordering fresh, Wonder tree, a platform using augmented reality games to address the challenges of special children, Rateker, a social app for sharing anonymous feedback, RentMyCar, an online car rental market place, T7M, a content generation website, KheloKricket, Pakistan’s first social hub for cricket players, Everee, a discovery app with offline notifications, Inferential-S, a security authentication solution based on keystroke dynamics, Daakhla.pk, a portal to find admissions in top universities and eTuitionHub, an online learning platform with teachers from around the world.
