LCCI urges Govt for the timely completion of CPEC
LAHORE: The government has been urged to ensure the timely completion of China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) as it would steer Pakistan into a great investment destination.
The demand was raised at a luncheon meeting hosted by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to honour the Lahore Economic Journalists Association (LEJA). LCCI President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad said that CPEC would start a new era of progress and prosperity in the country therefore it should be handled with extra care.
He said that the economic benefits of the project are hard to estimate as China has already promised to invest more than $46 billion in this connection. He added that, both the governments are working closely for the development of the project but the private sectors of both the nations would have a bigger role to play for the mega project.
Arshad said that CPEC is an overall cooperation platform with a focus on the long-term development of bilateral cooperation in various fields. He said that it is needless to mention that the leading chambers of commerce, like LCCI, would have to spearhead the efforts to ensure a widespread gain to all the stakeholders.
The LCCI President said that Pakistan is bound to become economically strong and independent with a never-ending chain of investments from China. It will only be possible if the private sector representatives play their due role proactively, he added.
He said that the mega project should be completed at any cost as undoubtedly, it has the potential to turn Pakistan into a pivot of regional cooperation, adding that if Pakistan uses this opportunity wisely, it would enable the nation to harvest the economic benefits the corridor has to offer.
He further said that CPEC could strengthen Pakistan’s esteem and would also bring development and prosperity to the people of around ten developing nations.
