MasterCard introduces ‘Selfie Pay’ for millennials
Instead of using your fingers to identify yourself as a cardholder, MasterCard is going to let you use take a selfie. MasterCard is taking mobile payments one step forward. Now you do not have to use your fingerprints for the transactions like Apple Pay.
Buy anything from your MasterCard, a notification will pop up at your app and ask you to snap a picture of your face to verify your identity.
The anticipations are high! Hope the Snapchat-obssesed millennial will love the idea. “The new generation, which is into selfies… I think they’ll find it cool,” President, Enterprise Safety and Security at MasterCard, Ajay Bhalla said. “They’ll embrace it,” he added.
As far as security issues are concerned, while taking a selfie you have to blink your eyes. (In that way someone would not be able to just hole a photo of you to trick the app.)
MasterCard’s application will also support fingerprint scanning for sanctioned purchases.
This feature is still in its early stage of development, and before introducing it to the public the MasterCard will test its new app on 500 cardholders.
