NA recommends Dec 16 to observe as Pakistan Children Day

ISLAMABAD : The National Assembly on Wednesday held Fateha for the innocent martyrs of the Army Public School, Peshawar who were killed in a ruthless attack by terrorists one year ago and for Aitzaz Hassan – a school boy who laid his life while defending his fellow school-mates in Hangu.

On the request of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, lawmaker Muhammad Yousuf offered Fateha for the innocent martyrs.

On the occasion, the parliamentarians paid rich tributes to the martyrs and expressed their resolve to fight against the terrorism till the menace was totally eliminated from Pakistan. They said that the blood of martyrs would not go waste as these sacrifices united the nation for one cause and that was to fight against terror.

The National Assembly also passed a unanimous resolution expressing deep grief and sadness over the martyrdom of more than 150 students and teachers of the APS on 16th December last year.

The resolution was moved by Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid. The house strongly condemned the barbaric atrocity, which was a crime against humanity and once again expressed deepest sympathy with the families of the victims.

The resolution noted with appreciation that pursuant of that dastardly attack, military action against terrorists in the form of operation Zarb-e-Azb launched by our valiant armed forces proved to be successful. It said in recognition of the national unity forged by this heart rendering tragedy which had further strengthened the firm resolve of the people of Pakistan to fight, destroy and eliminate the perpetrators of this tragedy.

The assembly recommended that 16th December should be observed as Pakistan’s Children Day in memory of the martyrs. It also recommended that prayer for the martyrs and peace and prosperity of Pakistan should be offered every year in all the educational institutions of the country.
