Weekly inflation eases by 0.13%

ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation for the combined income group witnessed decrease of 0.13% as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 218.53 points against 218.82 points registered in the previous week, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Similarly, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 3.22%.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000 was also decreased by 0.32% as it went down from 210.03 points in the previous week to 209.35 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000 and 18,001-35,000 decreased by 0.26%, 0.21%, 0.13% and 0.03% respectively.

During the week under review, average prices of 10 items registered decreased, while that of 19 items increased with the remaining 24 items’ prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included potatoes, tomatoes, onions, sugar, soap, red chilly powder (loose), rice basmati broken, wheat and wheat flour. The items which recorded increase in their average prices included garlic, chicken farm, LPG cylinder, cigarettes, pulse mash, cooked pulses, eggs (farm), bananas, firewood whole, salt powder (loose), pulse moong, pulse gram, pulse masoor, cooked beef, cooking oil, vegetable ghee, rice IRRI-6, beef and mutton.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included bread plain, milk fresh, powdered milk, mustard oil, vegetable ghee, tea, tea prepared, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents sandal, gents shoes, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene oil, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol, Hi Speed Diesel and telephone charges.
