LHC extends stay against 14% increase in gas tariff
LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf on Tuesday extended the stay against recent 14% increase in gas tariff till February 2.
The judge, on November 19, 2015, had suspended the operation of the impugned notification of the increase and had also sought reply from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on a petition challenging the raise in tariff.
On Tuesday, the counsel for federal government sought time for filing the reply and the judge postponed the hearing till February 2.
Petitioner counsel Shahid Ikram submitted that the OGRA increased the price through a notification. He claimed that OGRA did not fulfil the legal requirements before issuing the impugned notification. He said the law required that the OGRA should have public hearing before the increase but it violated the mandatory requirement.
He said the act of the authority was unlawful and liable to be set aside. He requested to declare the increase as illegal.
