PTI expresses concern over govt’s tax policies
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed grave concerns over the Amnesty Scheme (AS) announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“PTI Chairman Imran Khan constituted a five-member committee to prepare substitute proposals regarding the scheme,” said PTI parliamentarian Asad Umer on Saturday.
Commenting on the scheme, Asad Umer said that the object of this scheme was to encourage the individuals having black money and discourage the real taxpayers, adding that the government wants to facilitate the black money holders, who are hiding behind the veil of business community, and PTI would oppose the scheme at every platform.
“The committee constituted in this regard would provide proposals to the government and the standing committee on finance after the approval of PTI Chairman Imran Khan,” he added. The committee comprised of Nauman Wazir, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shibli Faraz, Mohisn Aziz and Asad Umer. Umer said that PTI is playing the role of a positive opposition, therefore, it has presented substitute proposals of the scheme besides criticising it, which is a new tradition in the country.
He further said that the five-member committee would make consultation with the opposition parties on the scheme and would put its stance before the government.
The PTI member mentioned that black money worth Rs 50 million would be white or legalised after 1% payment of this amount, adding that the AS bill had been tabled in the National Assembly on Friday and the speaker has sent it to the standing committee for further discussion.
The opposition parties had opposed the bill and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah also called a meeting in this regard. Invitations of the proposed meeting of the opposition parties have been sent to all the members.
