Scandal-hit Volkswagen to invest $900 million in the US

DETROIT : Embattled German car maker “Volkswagen” plans to make an additional $900 million investment in the United States to build a new mid-size SUV, Chief Volkswagen Matthias Mueller announced on Sunday.

Investment of Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant will create approximately 2,000 jobs, Mueller said on the eve of the Detroit auto show amid an emissions cheating scandal that has plunged the company into deep crisis.

“The US remains a core market for the Volkswagen Group,” the CEO said.
