World acknowledges Pakistan's economic progress : PM

LAHORE : Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said the world appreciated the economic gains, achieved by his government in the shortest period of time.

PM said foreign reserves of the country had swelled to over $ 21 billion, which were hovering around at only $2 to $3 billion before 2013. The Prime Minister was responding to queries of media persons here after conveying his condolence over the death of father of former Nazim, chairman Punjab Group of Colleges and chairman Media Group.

The Prime Minister said that the trickle-down effects of his government economic policies could be witnessed in slashing of prices of petroleum and other basic daily-use commodities.

He also announced to slash the petroleum prices by Rs 5, adding that the decision to cut down petroleum prices would bring relief to the common man. He said “The inflation has been brought down by 2 percent, prices of daily-use items were cut down, electricity is being supplied and the wheel of industry is moving.”

The Prime Minister said “I am not saying it, but the people in the world acknowledge it. The economic indicators of the country are showing very positive trends.”

About National Action Plan, the Prime Minister said that it was being implemented with full force. On certain points, the progress was being made while on others, efforts were required to be expedited, he added.

After his government came into power in 2013, the law and order situation in the country was deteriorating, with rampant incidents of bomb blasts, he said. Now significant improvement in the overall law and order situation had been made, he said, adding that Rangers would stay in Karachi where the law and order situation had stabilized in the last two and half years.

He said the operation Zarb-e-Azb did achieve very positive results. Terrorism would be eliminated from the country for good, he added.

The Prime Minister said “The country is now put on the path of peace and progress. The media across the globe appreciate these achievements.”

About Pathankot incident, the Prime Minister reiterated that they would reach to the final conclusion after thorough probe. He said that the matters with India were improving but the Pathankot incident had unfortunately affected them.

About Saudia-Iran tensions, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan took the initiative on its own to reduce the tension and remove misunderstanding between the two Muslim countries.

Pakistan is making efforts to reduce tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran since it had been its desire to address issues whenever they arose in the Muslim world, he added.
