Bollywood Movie ‘Happy Bhaag Jaegi’ banned in Pakistan
‘Happy Bhaag Jaegi’, a Bollywood movie, based on love-story plot relating to be an Indian-Pakistan love story but it seems love’s path is not as rose-strewn as expected. Pakistan, after dithering over the decision whether to approve its launch in Pakistan or not, has finally decided to ban the Diana Penty, Abhay Deol film, according to a Indian Newspaper’s report.
The film’s plot is about Diana Penty as Harpreet (Happy) running away from her marriage and mistakenly landing in Pakistan. The report surfaced regarding the film mainly related to issues that the Central Board of Film Censors had with a scene showing a portrait of Pakistani leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The film producer Anand Rai said the board also had problem with Piyush Mishra’s role in the movie who appears to be as ACP Usman Afridi (Pakistani policeman). Furthermore, he was on opinion that the board instead of asking for more cuts in the film has decided to ban ‘Happy Bhaag Jaegi’, he remarked
The producer has also compared the prime argument of banning decision to other Indian films like ‘Lage Raho Munna bhai’ which portrayed Mahatma Gandhi as a character.
While putting more light on the cause of ban, the producer Anand L Rai was quoted as saying, “The censor board of Pakistan saw the film and they loved it. They wanted us to cut a minor part of the film. We agreed to it. Initially, I was told that the film is clean. Later, we were informed that a ministry in Pakistan had objected to the film. As a filmmaker, the only greed I have is that the movie should reach a larger audience. The political reason for which a film is banned has nothing to do with a common man”, he added
The film is directed by Mudassar Aziz and starring Ali Fazal and Jimmy Shergill, the movie also stars Pakistani actress Momal Sheikh while it also captures scenic locales outside Lahore.
