Pakistan celebrates 70th Independence Day with patriotic fervour
ISLAMABAD: The nation is celebrating Independence Day on Sunday (today) with with a renewed pledge to safeguard the motherland against any threat and make it a true Islamic welfare.
The day started with a gun salutes in the federal and provincial capitals of the country. Thousands of citizens from Rawalpindi and Islamabad witnessed the great firework.
The day dawned with 31-gun salute in the federal and 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals.
All the major public and private buildings, roads and avenues have been decorated with illuminations, national flags, portraits of the national leaders, banners and buntings.
The main event of the day was a flag hoisting ceremony at Convention Center in Islamabad where President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Speaker of National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq along with members of the federal cabinet were present on the occasion.
Special prayers were offered for the prosperity, integrity and solidarity of the country, unity of the Muslim Ummah and for the success of the long-drawn struggle of Kashmiris.
An impressive change of guards ceremony took place at the mausoleum of Quaid-e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah where a contingent of Pakistan Navy took charge.
Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan and Murad Ali Shah paid a visit to Mazar-e-Quaid where they laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha. They also hoisted the national flag and met children.
