The much awaited Azadi Train launched ahead of Independence Day
ISLAMABAD: The government has launched Azadi Train with its one-month country-wide journey from Margalla Station Islamabad to showcase different aspects of Pakistan’s culture and highlight sacrifices of national heroes of the independence movement and armed forces for the country’s defence.
Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique and Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid launched the azadi train at the station on Thursday. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ministers for Information and Railways says Azadi Train is the symbol of national unity and solidarity.
Khawaja Saad Rafique said it portrays genesis of Pakistan, our past and bright future besides highlighting cultural diversity of the provinces and different regions of the country.
He appreciated attached departments of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and ISPR for their close cooperation in making the Azadi Train a resounding success.
The multi-coloured bogeys of the azadi train depicting culture of the four provinces, FATA, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan are ready to roll out ahead of Independence Day.
The journey of Azadi Train will take off from Peshawar on Friday and will reach Karachi on the 5th of next month. It will reach completion at Golra Railway Station on the 13th of August.
The train will stay overnight at sixteen stations including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Samma Sata, Sukkur, Sibi, Quetta, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, Karachi, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dera Ghazi Khan and Kundian Station.
The train would carry 18 coaches of which six have floats projecting the culture of four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
Other six coaches coached dedicated to history of Pakistan, Kashmir Movement, achievements and sacrifices of Armed Forces, development projects and History of Pakistan Railways and remaining six coaches are attached for operational and administrative purposes and will highlight different aspects of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
The main objectives for running the Azadi Train are to highlight the aspects of the independence movement, sacrifices of armed forces for the defence of the country and culture and heritage of all regions of Pakistan.
