United Nation expresses ‘Great Concern’ over escalating Indo-Pak tension
UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations on Thursday voiced “great concern” over the escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region, and urged India and Pakistan to “exercise restraint” and resolve their issues through dialogue.
A spokesman of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters that the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), which monitors the LoC, were aware of the reports, coming out from LoC, of ceasefire violations and liaising with the authorities concerned to obtain further information.
“We are following with great concern the increase in tensions along the Line of Control,” Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in reply to a question at the regular noon briefing at UN Headquarters in New York.
“The UN calls on the Governments of India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and encourage them to continue their efforts to resolve their differences peacefully and through dialogue,” the spokesman further said.
