149 burnt to death as oil tanker catches fire in Bahawalpur


BAHAWALPUR : At least 145 people were killed, over 100 injured as an oil tanker caught fire in City’s Ahmedpur East town on Sunday morning.

The tanker carrying 40,000 litres of fuel from Karachi to Lahore, overturned on a main highway while travelling near the town of Ahmadpur East.

Injured rushed to hospital for immediate treatment. Dozens of vehicles were engulfed in the blaze that erupted in Pul Paka near the National Highway.

The Pakistan Army said it had sent helicopters to evacuate the wounded and hospitals were put on high alert. The nearest burn centre is believed to be more than 150 kilometres away.
