Sindh Govt unveils over Rs1 trillion budget


KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has presented budget of Rs1.043 trillion for the fiscal year 2017-18 in the Sindh Assembly.

Presenting the budget in the House, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said the province will receive over Rs627 billion from federal government in various heads.

Murad Ali Shah announced to provide 49,000 jobs in various sectors including 10,000 recruitments in police department to meet shortage of staff. He informed that education sector has been accorded the highest priority with allocation of 202.2 billion rupees while health sector’s allocation is 100.32 billion rupees which is 26 percent more as compared to the current financial year.

For the upcoming fiscal year 2017-18 , the outlay represents an increase of 20% compared to previous fiscal year’s figure of 869.12 billion.

Shah said that the budget deficit is expected at more than Rs14 billion for the upcoming fiscal year. Total revenue is expected to see a 20.4% increase at 1.028.8 trillion from previous fiscal year.


Rs 5 billion allocated for educational institutions and universities

Rs244 billion allocated for the province under the Annual Development Plan,

out of which Rs151.83bn has been allocated for 2,158 ongoing schemes.

816 new schemes are being introduced in the province, for which Rs92.163bn have been allocated

15% increase in the salaries and pension of government employees,

He announces creation of over 46,000 new jobs

To include 14,000 vacancies to regularise the services of lady health workers and 10,000 new jobs in the police force

Proposed a property tax for 120-yards houses and an entertainment tax on cinemas

Rs92 billion has been earmarked for security-related costs.

The provincial budgetary estimates for non-development expenses are expected to be Rs 665 billion, while the overall development budget will be around Rs346 billion.

A sum of over Rs 42 billion will be reserved for ongoing development projects of the province.

Sindh government to spend an amount of around Rs320 million on projects to be developed in the province with the centre’s assistance

Around Rs10 billion is likely to be allocated for ongoing Karachi development package.
