2018 Ford F-150 diesel specifications revealed
Detroit (Reuters): Ford’s best-selling pickup lineup kicks off 2018 with an all-new powertrain option in the form a first-ever-for-F-150 diesel engine.
A diesel version of the Ford’s best-selling F-150 truck is to go on sale in the US this spring, the firm announced today.
“We know people are sensitive to fuel economy,” said Dave Filipe, vice president, global powertrain engineering.
A high mileage rating is a “Holy Grail for the truck customer,” he said, because die-hard customers are towing heavy loads all the time and want to save money at the pump.
Ford said it was confident its diesel engines would comply with emissions standards.
The engine, a variant of the 3.0L turbodiesel sold in Jaguar and Land Rover models, is built at Ford’s Dagenham Engine Plant in the U.K. Ford expects the plant to be able to provide ample supply of the engines.
