Famous Music Composer A R. Rahman Turns 51 Today


A R. Rahman, known as one of the world’s all-time best-selling music recording artists turns 51 today. He is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician and philanthropist.

Born in Chennai, India to a Hindu family, A.R. Rahman’s mother converted to Islam along with the entire family after her husband’s death.

His Contribution In Music Industry:

  • A.R. Rahman has won four National Awards,he was also given two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and 15 Filmfare Awards to name a few.
  • He also received a Padma Bhushan for the services he rendered to the music fraternity.
  • He had the zenith of his career when he arranged a background score for British drama film Slumdog Millionaire for which he even won an Academy Award.
  • His extensive body of work for film and the stage earned him the nickname “the Mozart of Madras”
  • Time placed Rahman in its list of World’s Most Influential People.
  • The UK based World Music magazine Songlines named him one of ‘Tomorrow’s World Music Icons’ in August 2011.
  • Rahman is currently one of the highest paid composers of the motion picture industry.
  •  He is a notable humanitarian and philanthropist, donating and raising money for beneficial causes and supporting charities.
