Pakistan beat New Zealand by 48 runs in second T20i
Eden Park, Auckland (Web Desk): Pakistan cruised to a 48-run victory over New Zealand in the second T20i and levelled the series 1-1 with one more T20I to be played between the two nations.
Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam scored quickfire half-centuries in the second T20I while Sarfraz Ahmed and Ahmed Shehzad contributed with 40s which gave Pakistan a big total of 200 for 4 at the Eden Park.
At a small ground, New Zealand lost regular wicket which slowed down the scoring pace and did not threaten Pakistan’s defence. The bowlers were also on the top and continued to bowl with aggression.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan were off to a brisk start thanks to Fakhar and Shehzad. Both took the attack to New Zealand bowlers and got boundaries at will.
Fakhar scored a half-century while Shehzad was out after making 44. Babar and Sarfraz then took over from them to take Pakistan closer to 200. The Pakistan captain fell for 41 but Babar hit a four off the final delivery of the innings and completed his half-century and Pakistan’s 200.
New Zealand lost Munro and Williamson early and then Guptill followed them too. Ben Wheeler, Mitchell Santner and de Grandhomme did try to bring New Zealand close but lost their wickets in the process.
Pakistan performed poorly with the bat in the first game of the T20 series with nine of its batsmen failing to score in double figures. The side was bowled out for a low total of 105 runs.
Pakistan now face off against the hosts in the third and final T20 on Sunday, January 28.
