SC banned 24 companies from selling mineral water

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday has stopped 24 mineral water supply companies all over Pakistan.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar chaired a three-member bench for the hearing of distribution of clean and safe water case. The counsel defending the mineral water company claimed that they are providing safe clean water to the public.

The CJP remarked that companies’ lawyers receive a hefty amount of fee but this does not give them the right to take liberties. He maintained that the companies should be wary of not selling filthy water.

Company’s defendant said, “The court can summon the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PCSQA) report if required.”

Chief Justice of Pakistan said that influential lawyer cannot change the verdict of the court. He said, “Companies should have the consciousness to provide clean water, we have to care for the people and the children.”

The lawyer argued that the court summon the report of Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) in this regard, to which the CJP responded, “We will send for the report by ourselves. The companies should not remain in the illusion that they will get relief while hiring a prominent lawyer.”

The court then ordered all 24 companies to stop the distribution of water until further notice. The court postponed the hearing for an unspecified period of time.
