CJP orders Punjab govt to remove all blockades in Lahore
Lahore (Web Desk): Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar directed the provincial government to immediately remove all blockades outside Jati Umra, Governor House, IG Office, Model Town and other places across the city.
Three member bench headed by CJP Nisar ordered this while hearing a case pertaining to security barriers at the apex court’s Lahore registry.
The apex court conducted a hearing at Lahore Registry in which Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif appeared upon summoning in case pertaining to clean water provision to public, road blockades and appalling condition of hospitals.
When the additional home secretary explained to the court that the barricades have been erected due to security concerns, the chief justice remarked, “I have threats too, you should alert your forces”.
The bench directed the provincial authorities to remove all barriers placed outside the Punjab chief minister’s camp office in Model Town, Governor House, IG Punjab Police office and Raiwind within 24 hours.
Initially, Sharif was called by the court on immediate basis on Saturday by the same bench, but the provincial chief secretary requested respite from the court saying that Punjab CM was busy. The CJP then directed Sharif to appear on Sunday at 11am.
During the hearing, the chief minister informed the court about the various power and water development projects under way in Punjab, which was appreciated by the bench.
