Doesn’t have any Political agenda, says Chief Justice
Islamabad (Web Desk): Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar asserted on Tuesday that he has no political agenda and only wishes for the well-being of the public.
He said this while hearing a suo motu case related to hike in medicine prices, He stated “By God, we have no political agenda”.
He said he doesn’t even like to touch political cases but as a matter of fact after all it is their duty to hear them out.
The Chief Justice directed to give quick verdicts on the pleas regarding hike in prices of medicines.
In his remarks, Supreme Court doesn’t have to determine the prices of medicines but there should be a balance in the prices.
The Chief Justice clarified that the court did not want anyone to bear any losses, reiterating the non-political agenda pursued by the bench.
“Medicine companies do not have the right to increase the prices on their own. Before the drug policy, Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) had a contract with medicine companies who were provided relief intentionally from the courts while delaying the hearing of petitions,” Chief Justice noted.
He said, “The Supreme Court will monitor all the affairs with respect to the price hike and will provide other organisations with guidelines as well,”
The court while finishing the arguments adjourned the hearing for one day
