Islamabad (Web Desk): The accountability court hearing Ashiana housing scam has extended the remand of former director general Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Ahad Cheema and Bismillah Engineering Company CEO Shahid Shafiq and handed over them to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The arrested were accused in Ashiana-e-Iqbal housing scheme scam and on Monday they were sent on a 15-day remand after NAB officials requested the accountability court to extend their physical remand as investigators have to probe the case further.

During the hearing, the prosecution alleged that Cheema handed over the contract to Bismillah Company in return for 32 kanals of land. The prosecution further alleged the land was transferred to numerous family members of Cheema, including his sister and cousin.

The officer requested the court for physical remands of both after which, verdict was reserved that was announced later.

NAB had also approved fresh investigation into ‘assets beyond means’ of Ahad Cheema for which a team was also formed to probe Ahad Cheema’s assets.

Cheema had also obtained a 32-kanal piece of land in Lahore Cantonment, registered in the name of his cousin and siblings Ahmed Cheema and Sadia Mansoor, said the NAB spokesperson

Shahid Shafiq was arrested on the identification of former Director General (DG) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema after it was discovered that Rs.14bn contract had been granted to Bismillah Services despite the company being a C-4 category subsidiary company of Paragon City.
