PPP, PTI in tussle to pitch their senate leader of opposition
Islamabad (Web desk): With two of Senate’s top slots being packed after the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sadiq Sanjrani and Saleem Mandiwalla were chosen as the chairman and deputy chairman respectively on Monday, a new tussle has come into play between both the parties of pitching different candidates as the senate leader of opposition.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to bring forth its own candidate Azam Swati for the Senate opposition leader slot after reports that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Sherry Rehman for the post.
A formal announcement by the PPP is expected soon as party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called a meeting of senior leaders today.
If elected, Rehman would be the first woman Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
On the other hand, Azam Swati enjoys PTI’s support. He has also served in various positions in the Senate.
