Saleem Mandviwalla elected as new deputy chairman Senate
Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Saleem Mandviwalla on Monday has been elected as new Deputy chairman of Senate.
Voting was held under Presiding Officer, Sardar Yaqub Nasir, appointed by the President Mamnoon Hussain during which the election for the chairmanship of the Senate was held by the secret ballot.
All the members voted for nominated candidates for the chairman and deputy chairman through the secret poll and the voting was completed at around 6 pm.
Sadiq Sanjrani, the opposition-backed candidate from Balochistan, was appointed Senate chairman. Sanjrani secured 57 votes out of possible 103 votes and was administered oath by presiding officer Sardar Yaqub Khan.
Sanjrani, an independent, had been backed by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
According to reports, Sanjrani also had the support of independent senators elected from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
