Shahbaz Sharif elected as new President of PML-N
Islamabad (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as permanent president of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
Former premier Nawaz Sharif was elected as the party’s Quaid for life.
Shahbaz who had been serving as the interim president was elected unopposed during the party’s central general council meeting.
During the CWC meeting, attended by Sharif, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as well as other senior party leaders, Shahbaz had emerged as a consensus choice for the top party position.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif thanked Nawaz, his brother, for entrusting the important party position to him. “The world knows that injustice was served to our leader Nawaz,” Shahbaz told party workers, “but I believe he will get justice.
Shahbaz lashed out at political opponents, saying they have not done anything but make tall claims while the government actually delivered to the people.
