Shahrukh Jatoi’s Petition dismissed by Supreme Court in Shahzeb murder case
Islamabad (Web Desk): A review petition filed by Shahrukh Jatoi, convicted of Shahzeb Khan’s murder, was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Monday.
The Supreme Court had been enthused by members of the civil society against the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) conclusion ordering a re-trial and elimination of terrorism charges from the conviction against the accused. The apex court took a sou motu action and nullified the SHC order instead of accepting the civil society appeal.
Justice Khosa also observed that the SC had exercised a lot of caution in its verdict, so as to not ‘add fuel to fire.’
Lateef Khosa told the court that injustice had been served to his client, to which in answer Justice Khosa responded that the Supreme Court had exercised a lot of caution in its verdict, so as to not ‘add fuel to fire.’
“You have sealed my client’s fate,” Khosa added. However, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said how the SHC could go against the SC’s 2013 order in the case. Justice Asif Khosa said, “The Constitution is an empty vessel and judges pour meanings in them.”
The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, had also ordered the SHC to constitute a bench to hear the appeal on merit and decide it in two months.
