Islamabad (Web desk) : The Supreme Court  dismissed on Tuesday the federal government’s plea seeking an increase in its quota for the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Hearing the case, a three- member bench headed by Chief Justice Minan Saqib Nisar had formed a committee to probe the change in quota issue after the LHC ordered to decrease the quota from 67 to 60 percent.

The Chief Justice asked the Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mehmood if the cabinet could render the order by a superior court ineffective.

He dismissed the plea, saying that there was nothing wrong with the LHC order.

The court inquired from the law officer how the cabinet could turn over a court order.

On March 16, the IHC had set the Hajj quota at 60 percent for government and 40 percent for private Hajj operators this year.
